Tucson artist Terry Medaris’ interest in art goes back to his elementary school days, where he was discovered by his third grade teacher. He later went on to study commercial art in Los Angeles and at the University of Arizona. Inspired by the relationship of nature to the character of indigenous American people of the Southwest, Medaris has done extensive research of their culture, history, costume and icons. He uses bold, intricate designs and striking color contrasts to bring life and originality to each of his pieces.
